The instinct when building a synthetic creator is to make them likeable. This is the wrong target. Likeable is generic, and generic is invisible. The target is specific, and specificity requires constraints that are written down before anything is produced.

The spec

Every persona we run has a document that fixes the things that must never drift. Age and region, because they set vocabulary and reference points. Voice, described in three or four adjectives that actually conflict with something. Cadence, so the posting rhythm belongs to a person with a life. And a list of things this character never does.

That last section does most of the work. A persona defined only by what it is drifts toward the mean within a few dozen posts, because every individual generation nudges it slightly toward the most probable output. Prohibitions hold the shape.

• Never uses emoji, or uses exactly one specific emoji.
• Never says the brand name in the first half.
• Never apologises for the length of the video.
• Never uses the word 'literally', or uses it constantly.
• Never films outside the house.

Specific beats broad

A 62-year-old in Phoenix talking about menopause and sleep is a narrower audience than a wellness account, and it will outperform the wellness account, because the wellness account is competing with everything and she is competing with almost nothing. The niche is the distribution advantage, not a limitation on it.

The demographics worth building are the ones you could not hire for. Not because they are unavailable, but because no roster is deep enough to have one of everyone.

Where personas break

Almost always in the comments. The posted content is generated with the spec in context and holds fine; the reply written in a hurry does not, and one out-of-character reply in a thread does more damage than a mediocre video, because it is the moment the audience was paying closest attention.

So replies run through the same spec as the posts, and the persona's prohibitions apply to them with more force, not less. If the character does not use exclamation marks, the character does not use them when someone is being rude either.
