The tell is not the pixels. It is the generic. How we use models without shipping the average of the internet, and where a human still has to touch the file.
Viewers are getting better at spotting generated video, but they are spotting something more specific than artefacts. They are spotting the mean: faces that belong to no city, rooms with no mess, lines that sound like a briefing document. The model is averaging. Average is the enemy of hold.
We use the models. We do not ship their first draft. The production is hybrid on purpose: generation for volume and variants, humans for the constraints that stop the average leaking into the file.
Where AI is actually useful

Openings, at volume
Sixteen first seconds of the same body is a miserable ask of a creator and a cheap ask of a model. Hook testing is the job generation is good at.

Formats a roster cannot cover
Talking products, object animation, a founder who cannot be in sixteen cities. These are not replacements for UGC. They are formats that did not exist as a $50 unit before.

The ugly first assembly
A cut that is 80% of the way there, so an editor spends the hour on the 20% a viewer will actually notice.
Where it still fails
- Hands, text in frame, and anything that has to match a real pack shot.
- Comedy that depends on timing a human would feel in their chest.
- A persona that was never specified, so the model invents a pleasant nobody.
- Audio that was generated and then not listened to out loud.
Those are not reasons to avoid the tools. They are the checklist the human pass is for. If a clip cannot survive that list, it does not ship, no matter how fast it was made.
The goal is not 'AI video'. The goal is a file that holds, at a price that lets you run the next one tomorrow.
What we tell clients
We do not hide the method. Hybrid production, AI-assisted, human-shaped. If a buyer needs to know a face is a real creator, we say so and we shoot it that way. If a talking product is the right format for the test, we say that too. The file is judged on hold, not on how romantic the pipeline sounds.
